This impressive image of a sitting figure on a rock named “Fang Manwichai”, or “Big Buddha Mountain”, was created to commemorate the ninth year of the reign of the king.
The outline of the image was applied to the flattened surface of the north-western side of the Felsen Khao Chi Chan Mountain with a laser. Gold-plating the image took several months and cost no less than 160 million baht. The rock with its beautiful image of 109 meter high and 60 meters wide can be found between Nong Nooch Tropical Garden, the Silverlake and the Wat Yannasangvararam, a beautiful nature area and a popular attraction for tourists. In front of the park is a gorgeous pond with a small pavilion where you can retreat for meditation. So it is possible...... Many thousands of postcards must have been sent from this Buddha image, especially to China and Korea.
The entrance is free of charge......! That also applies to Farang and other foreign visitors!
However, a small donation will no doubt be appreciated.
